May 12, 2023

Sara Olsher is the founder and CEO of the family mental health and wellness company Mighty + Bright, and the author of picture books for kids coping with divorce, cancer, change and big emotions. As a single parent and cancer survivor, Sara has seen firsthand that the universe can deal some pretty harsh blows. Through her work as a speaker, author-illustrator, and founder, Sara helps parents claw their way out of deep, dark holes to create families that don't just survive, but thrive.

Her company, Mighty + Bright, provides tools meant to make getting through impossibly hard things as simple and accessible as humanly possible — with the goal of coming out the other side with coping skills that will last a lifetime.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • Why it's important to have hard conversations with our children like divorce, cancer diagnosis, death, etc.
  • How parents can support their children through divorce and having a different family structure than other kids.
  • How she managed to go through a life-threatening illness as a single mother and what she has learned since that time.
  • How cancer changed her parenting style.
  • Tips and strategies for parents going through difficult times.
  • The inspiration behind her first calendar and book.
